Trunk or Treat

I was uncertain how what my family would do on Halloween four years ago because I wasn't sure how I felt about celebrating that day, but found out about an alternative celebration at an area church that was open to the community called Trunk or Treat. It was really neat to give the kids a chance to dress up (they love dressing up even now four years later and not just on October 31). I've never bought costumes - we've just always used their dress up clothes. This year was the first time I went to so much effort to dress them up, but it was great fun!

Last night I took them to trunk or treat at a local Methodist Church again and they went as election booths. Half the costume was red and the other half was blue. The front said voting booth with McCain on the right side and Obama on the left side. Half the box was dedicated to McCain and the other half to Obama with propaganda from each on their side.

Picture taken by my friend Cheryl

Everyone loved their costumes. I told people they could vote early and often (early because its early and often because it was two kids). Perfect strangers were stopping us and asking for pictures of the kids. I was sitting on a bale of hay between my two kids and one man walked up and asked if I was Sarah Palin (obviously he was blind, but it was fun). We never had so much fun or attention at trunk or treat. I don't think we ever got so much candy either because people were putting extra candy in their candidates slot and the people who didn't want to reveal their candidate put candy in both slots. Several people went crazy stuffing the slot of their choice.

You should have dressed up as Sarah Palin - a pregnant Sarah Palin! lol

Hi Randi and Papa - just wanted to let you both know that I posted a picture my friend Cheryl took last night when we stopped by her house.

I don't think I could pull off Sarah Palin though unless of course I had a mask and wig - and of course the belly would be an issue since she is slender and already has her baby. Of course that one man asked if I was Sarah Palin, in jest of course.

What a clever idea! :) Love it!

By the way, I prayed for your friend who was having her twins. How are she and the babies doing??

Thanks for praying for Lynetta, James and John - James had some complications last night - I updated in the comments section of the post entitled - Special Prayer Request.

P.S. to Faith - we had a lot of fun at Trunk or Treat. It was neat that it fell so close to the election.

Very clever costumes! Our town has a Trunk or Treat (or is Trunk and Treat?) along our downtown Main Street. The stores give out candy and other organizations and businesses pack car trunks full of goodies. Dept. of Corrections gives out huge amounts of stuff.

Robin,

That is SO clever and funny! What a great opportunity also to teach your kids about the importance of voting, even at such a young age.

Glad you all had a great time. Thanks for the photos.

Tiffany - it was great fun - they definitely attracted attention.

Queen - It will definitely be a memory. I'm glad we did it.

Julie - Yes all is well here - I hope you get all your computer stuff figured out soon. What a pain...

JESSICA - I'm so sad that I missed your call... boo hoo... Rick told me that you were going to try the church also, but I was outside and we didn't hear the phone ring if you did call. We had a great time at Brite Nite. I'm doing great - having some back pain, but heat helps some. I start seeing my doctor weekly on Monday the 10th. Time sure has flown... So when should your new neice or nephew expect a visit??? Hmm yes pressure intended... :)

Moms - I'm curious what does the Dept of Corrections give out at Trunk or Treat? I can imagine some interesting items like candy handcuffs, etc... but I'm guessing they went boring on you :)

Andrea - They had a blast! Trust me my kids have been interested in the voting process since birth just about. Rick has worked the elections since before we were married. My kids feel like celebrities when we walk in to vote at each election because everyone gets excited about their presence, comments on how big they have grown since the last election and of course someone always takes them back to the snack room and fills them up on junk and gives them great joy. I just hope they didn't leave our Trunk or Treat time with vote early and often as their great memory. It was one of the jokes of the evening and of course most everyone voted extra times.

Just wanted to mention we went and saw "Fireproof!" last night! Went with another couple - our church had a goal to fill one of the local theater rooms - 280 tickets to sell. We ended up filling 2 1/2 theaters - close to 500 tickets! A great movie!!

Papa - Awesome! I'm glad you got to see it! I want to see it also some day, but I did find that they have a book out also and I requested that my library purchase a copy. If they buy the book, chances are I will read the book before I get to see the movie, but I like it best that way. I like to read the book before I see the movie anyhow.

Glad you had such a big crowd! I hope it makes an impact in the lives of those who see it!
