Baby Update - 77 days and Counting

I saw my OB yesterday afternoon and had my 1 hour glucose test done. W hen I get the results I will most likely just add them in the comments section. Since it was late afternoon, I had to take the kids with me. Fortunately everything went well and there were no problems with bringing them.

My doctor said everything is going great. The only note of concern she had (not really just something she mentioned) was that I'm measuring two weeks bigger than I should be. She already moved my due date a week earlier than the first date they gave me at the beginning of the pregnancy. One concern that I failed to mention (having the kids there kept me from thinking I guess) is that I'm having significant lower back pain almost constantly now. (77 days until the due date)

I've always suffered with lower back pain due to my scoliosis. However I've noticed that when I'm consistent with exercise I can usually manage my pain. When I'm not pregnant and I'm in a lot of pain I take 800 mg of Ibuprofen, use lots of heat, and wear my brace (none of which I can do now). Sometimes I have back pain that makes sense - when I make a bad decision thinking I can do something that I shouldn't do. Now, I think its from the extra weight that I'm carrying out in front. I'm in a lot of pain after sitting for a while or sleeping. The pregnancy belt I'm using offers minimal relief.

The doctor wants to see me again in two weeks and she said she will do a sonogram then because she wants to see how big the baby is. So pray that I can find ways to minimize the back pain.

On a positive note - I seem to be on the road to recovery from my sinus infection. I finished my antibiotic on Thursday and continue to flush using a Neti Pot - very odd and a bit gross, but quite helpful.

Sorry to know you are having back pain. I hope you rest and find relief as your baby grows.

Linda - yep another sonogram - make this number 7. I only had one sonogram a piece with my other kids. I can't wait for the Christmas music either.

Papa - thanks for your prayers - appreciated as always!

Melanie - I appreciate your kind words and prayers too!

Tiffany - Thanks for your prayers as well. Pray that I find a way to get some relief because it just gets worse as I grow. The pregnancy belt I'm wearing offers minimal relief when a few months ago it was incredible how it would relieve the pain very quickly.

Special prayer Request - I'd like to ask you all to pray for my next door neighbor, Suzanne - 9 months old. She has multiple medical issues and today she choked while eating and stopped breathing. She was rushed by ambulance early this afternoon to our local hospital. Then transported by helicopter to a bigger hospital with a PICU unit. My neighbors are terrific people and I couldn't have picked better neighbors. Please keep Ali and Lisa (parents), their five year old son (my son's best buddy) and their baby, Suzanne in your prayers! Thank YOU!

Hope that you are farther along than you think...but I have always measured, according to the norm, 2 weeks bigger than I really was...and that is more common in later pregnancies than in first ones.

Keep an eye on the back pain..sometimes it can be a sign of labor starting...I had it for about 3 weeks prior to Maura coming...be sure to mention it to your doctor, please!

Robin said...

Hi Chelley,

Thanks for the email letting me know it was you - I would have figured it out though because your daughter's name is unique - she's the only Maura I know :)

I had back pain throughout my first pregnancy also and found out what back labor was..., but it was worth it for my little bundle of joy who is 8 1/2 now - how did that happen?

I will mention the back pain to my doctor when I see her on the 2nd of October. I have a tendency not to worry or mention back pain because its been such a major part of my life, but I know in pregnancy everything matters.

Thanks also for sharing that you measured bigger too. My brain started thinking about the glucose test and wondering if gestational diabetes could be an issue, but I decided to let that go and just wait for the results instead of worrying. With my son the doctor was concerned that I might have gd even before I took the test because of the weight gain - I gained 40 lbs with him, but he was fine and everything was fine.

Thanks again Chelley for your words of wisdom and friendship!

It has nothing to do with GD...which of course you know now...

it is just how baby lies and how far the uterus stretches.

With Fletcher...I changed...I went from being 2 weeks bigger to being 2 weeks smaller in one week towards the end...and the next week...back to 2 weeks bigger...he had simply rolled to face the front at one point...

Yeah, I agree with Chelley that you can measure bigger after having a few (or more) babies. :) I measured bigger with my last one. They thought she was going to be bigger than (or around) my 4th one which was 9 lbs, but it turned out she wasn't, it was how she was positioned. She actually weighed less than all of my kids (I have 5 for those who do not know) :) Her position was a partial breech, she was laying "sideways". (This is bringing up sweet memories) :) Here is info:
What Is a Transverse Lie Pregnancy?
Dr. Brenna Anderson, an assistant professor for the Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine for the Women and Infants hospital in Providence, R.I., says the proper term for this condition is the transverse fetal lie and refers to the direction the fetus assumes prior to delivery.
"A fetus in head-down position, the most desirable position, is called a vertex or cephalic lie," Dr. Anderson says. "When the fetus has either bottom down or feet down, this is referred to as a breech lie. Transverse lie means that the head is to one side and the feet or bottom are to the other so that neither the head nor the feet or bottom are presenting to the cervix. The fetus is lying sideways."

Fetuses cannot deliver safely in a transverse lie. They either need to turn such that they are facing head down or need to be delivered by C-section.

Anyway....I had two doctors on both sides of me after giving me a shot to relax me, and they turned her into the right position! Amazing, eh? :)

I had a ceserean with my 3rd child, but all the rest were vaginal births. I have different stories for each pregnancy. ;)

So anyway....thanks Robin, for letting me go down my own pregnancy memory lane for a few minutes and I know this will be a fun story for your child as well in your own pregnancy memories for he or she one day. :) I am excited for you to have your lil one, and my prayers are with you and your precious family. :)

Oh, and I only had one sonno also for the first 3 kids, had about 20 of them with the 4th, and probably like 10 with my last one. :)

You will probably have more to come too :)

I hope you have a great week, Robin! Love ya!

I will pray for your neighbor. (((hugs to them)))

Is that the Chelley that used to go to the same church you do?

Hi Chelley,

I must admit I did splurge on the sugar on Saturday just in case I'm told I can't eat it anymore - tsk tsk... It was my baby shower :) I did something I don't normally do... I ate the icing twice - I went back for another piece with lots of icing just to eat it. It was so yummy. I usually scrape the icing off the cake or skip it all together, but I decided in advance that I was eating cake at my baby shower.

I should have my glucose results Monday or Tuesday afternoon and I'm not going to worry about it now. Of course I'm not eating sugar today like I did yesterday...

I was guessing that next time I go in to the doctor I might just measure normal that it could have been from all the water and food I had been eating and drinking that day - normally I go in for my appointments first thing in the morning and this was later in the afternoon... who knows..

Baby is active though. :)

Randi Jo - Thanks for your prayers!

Linda - Yes, this is the Chelley that you know. They don't live in the area anymore.

It's always neat for us ladies to relive our birth and pregnancy stories - feel free :)

I was thinking that the doctor could tell me I have a huge baby and it could be born smaller than the others. Only time will tell.

Prayer Request...Update

Please keep praying for little Suzanne (nine months old). Pray that God works a miracle through this situation. Such a precious family!

Hi Robih,
Was just having a time of prayer before I go walk the dogs...my walking prayer time. Wanted you to know I am thinking of you, and also wondering how little Suzanne is doing. Obviously they got her to start breathing again, but are there some complications due to the length of time she was not breathing?

I pray your back pain lessons and the joy of your unborn baby increases as you head closer to D-Day (drop day...arrival of baby!). I know you must be getting more and more excited to actually hold the little one in your arms and not your uterus!

Love you Sister,
Carol

I'll keep praying for them. Let us know how they are doing as you are able. Is the baby still in the Hospital that the helicopter flew her to?

I hope your back pain lessens too!

Hi Chelley!

Love, Linda
p.s. I'm sorry I left such a long message about my own pregnancy. I got carried away. :O

Keep us posted on Suzanne - no wonder you are so sweet - all that cake icing !

Love you - your papa

Robin said...

Carol - Thanks for your thoughts and prayers both for Suzanne and for my back! Suzanne's mom is a school teacher and took off this week so she could be with her at the hospital. Please keep praying they don't know the extent of what is going on or what caused the problem on Saturday. They are such a sweet family - it hurts me to see them suffering.

I am so excited about the baby and you are right and can't wait to hold the precious little one in my arms :)

Robin said...

Linda - Yes, the baby is still in the hospital - the big one that Brianna was in when she had her staph infection (also near where Rick works). Please keep praying for little Suzanne and for the doctors and medical professionals and her family.

Robin said...

Papa - normally I avoid icing - if I make a cake at home I don't generally even use icing and at church or other places where cake overflows I either skip it or scrape the icing off. I was just splurging :)

Thanks also for praying for Suzanne I updated a little in the comments to Carol and Linda above. Pray especially for her parents now they are going through a rough time.

Glad the blood sugar was good. I hope your back pain subsides or at least becomes bearable. It's interesting that the Bible refers to the "travail" of having a baby a number of times. God knew this was something all women and their husbands had a clear understanding of.

Faith said...

Ow, sorry about the back pain! I've started having that myself in the past few weeks (and am measuring 5 weeks ahead--by singleton standards--so I'm catching up to you! ;)) so I can empathize. My OB said he could prescribe a lumbar support brace for me (that would be wearable during pregnancy); is that an option for you?

Robin said...

Queen - Thanks for stopping in and for your comment. The thing is that having a baby isn't really that big of a deal pain wise to me because I deal with back pain so regularly anyhow - the big difference is that I can't use my normal techniques for dealing. On the upside it helps me understand others who are unable to exercise because of pain. So I guess there is good in everything even back pain.

I'm glad about the blood sugar too because I was starting to fret a little about it when the doctor told me I was measuring two weeks bigger, but I stopped myself pretty quickly. I later read that when mothers have more than one child they often measure bigger. Next week I will have sonogram to get a better measure of the baby.

Robin said...

Faith - I'm sorry to hear that you are dealing with back pain too. For some crazy reason when I was pg with my son the back pain wasn't as intense as with my daughter and this pregnancy. I bought a pregnancy belt when I was pg with my daughter and I've been using it - however... it's not really helping now, so I think your suggestion is great and I will bring it up to my doctor next week when I see her again. The PG belt really helped a lot a couple months ago - I think that something sturdier would be better.

Have you had any more sonograms? I hope the rest of your pregnancy goes well and that your back pain subsides with your lumbar support brace.

I am dealing with some back pain - but I don't think I am pregnant. I feel quite well in the mornings. I will ask mt Chiropractor this afternoon.

Papa, I surely hope your not pregnant...!

I hope your back pain lessens and their your Chiropractor has some good advice for you!

Thanks for your comments! :) Actually we do know the sex of the other baby; I just thought each of them deserved their own announcement ... and it's more fun to draw it out a little anyway. ;)
I think it's fun that you'll be surprised with yours! I think if I already had a boy and a girl, I'd want to be surprised with the third one, too. :)

Robin said...

Faith - thanks neat how you are announcing them separately. I'm sure you will make a terrific mom! Your kids are lucky no blessed to have you!
