Just Another Day in My Life

June 5, 2006

The Scene: I'm working at the computer and my children are contentedly reading and playing on my bed three feet behind me...

Then for no apparent reason...

Son (3) started crying and screamed, "I'm going to die! I don't want to die!" and Daughter (6) was crying hysterically beside him. I jumped up to find out what was wrong.

More info - somehow a necklace of Daughter's got broken and Son swallowed a bead.

I explained that he wouldn't die and the bead would come out when he went potty, and held him in my arms and assured him that he would be fine.

Son still distraught abruptly walked out of the room.

Daughter said, "I'm glad he didn't die. I thought he would die. If he died I would keep a picture of him in my room forever."

Son comes back into the room and loudly announces, "I'm still not happy!"

Daughter said, "Well at least you aren't dead."

If you are sitting here reading this then you aren't dead. Things may not be going the way you had envisioned, but if you turn it all over to Jesus it will all work out according to HIS plan. Sometimes we can feel overwhelmed with our circumstances and we may not clearly understand why something has happened, but rest assured the Creator of the Universe and the author of our salvation knows and cares. Turn it all over to HIM and rejoice that you aren't dead and you still have a chance to make an impact in this world.

Hi Andrea,

So good to hear from you and I'm looking forward to talking with you. I'm enjoying reading back over things I written or typed up as they happened with the kids - just wish I would have recorded everything.

Talk to you soon!

Randi,

My tendency is to worry about everything too and I'm slowly learning to trust God with everything.

Have a great Sunday also!

Yes my kids bring lots of drama, but at least it's not boring :)

I enjoyed the singing story that either you or your mom shared.

Robin,
Thanks for sharing this story about your children. I laughed because I could just picture the whole senario with the two of them.
They would make a great drama team for our church!
I can also remember some moments with my twins like that.
Yes, you are right, sometimes we can feel overwhelmed with our circumstances, but God is in control.
Hugs,
Laura

Papa, my children are so much fun. They crack me up half of the time and teach me the the other half.

Laura, you know I'm crazy about those two little treasures just like I know you are about all of yours :) God IS in CONTROL!

Thanks for stopping by Ruthie - I'm looking forward to reading your stories about China. :)

That just reminded me of something my daughter said when she was small. She said if I died, she'd put me in her closet, so she could look at me every day. (smile)
I will start my China stories soon!

Kids are funny. I thought you were going to say he had been reading a book and suddenly realized that he was going to die... now THAT is another kind of conversation all together!

Death to self - a huge, lifelong task. It seems to be a theme in my life lately. Oh, such fun. But ultimately, very freeing.

Thank you! I needed to read that today.

Hi Robin,

Thanks for stopping by my blog:)

This post absolutely killed me! It was hysterical. Well, the part about the kiddo's. The rest of it....how true it is. Every new day is a day to rejoice in our Lord. We are free from death because Jesus has overcome the world!

I will be visiting often as I am adding you to my bloggin' buddies list:)

Love and Blessings....

Hi Heather,

I noticed from your profile that you home school too! How old are your kids? Mine are 8 and 5. The five year old won't start kindergarten according to the state until next fall, but he has begged to "do school" with his sister this year so we've done some work already.
