A Funny Day in My Life (three years ago)

July 26, 2005

My daughter went downstairs and got out an adult game (nothing bad, but not appropriate for a 5 year old) and said she wanted to play it. I told her no. She said she would play a kid game instead. So I got out Boggle Jr. and gave it to her and she said, "No, I want some options."

I said, "I will give you options - Boggle or nothing oh wait Boggle or you can clean your room."

She said, "Ok, give me Boggle."

I love my little girl, she is a riot and an amazing blessing in my life!

Sometimes we can act like a stubborn child and turn away the blessings that God wants to give us, but when we consider the options we might just realize that what HE had planned was best after all.

Can you think of a time in your life when you resisted a blessing that God wanted to give you? Did you finally accept it? Did you express thanks?

Very interesting. I give my kids options like clean your room or go to bed when they get bored. It's all good. They find something to do real fast. I think that just because I enjoy going to bed they should too, but I know they don't. I often resist good things...I don't think it's what I need, but it is. Thanks for the good post.

Yes, Julie I think go to bed is an amazing option, why do kids resist that? I guess when they become parents they will understand just like we finally did :)

I love the tie in to our life with Christ!
Thank you, and I'm going to be thinking on those questions.

You are such a good Mommy. I love how you handled the game situation. Your home sounds like such a nice place to be. Your kids have been given the same excellent gift that I was given as a child...Christian parents. That has been my number one blessing, for it has shaped who I am and the choices I make.

I thought I passed that on to my children, but thus far their choices are different than mine. Nothing but prayer can change them...so I pray. I love them dearly, supremely, eternally...but they still get to make their own choices, and that hurts sometimes. Thank goodness I can lean against the Father and give Him my hurts!

Enjoy these years with the ones you are nurturing...you are in the most blessed time of life, believe it or not. As mothers, when it's over, we long to "do it again!"

I have been pondering your question. God has blessed me so much! He has blessed me more than I have asked or dreamed.

Hi Robin:
Your daughter is so sweet.
I wish my teenage sons would ask to play Boogle instead of video games.
I am still thinking about your question.
God has blessed me so much too, more than I could even imagine or comprehend.
Hugs,
Laura

CDC - You make me strive to be the person you see me as. I see someone who messes up a lot and you see someone better than me. But thank you, because each time I read one of your messages, I want to be better, more like Jesus.

Praying for your sons that they come to know Jesus.

Papa - yes God has blessed us all more than we deserve.

Hi Laura,

Your friendship is a blessing! And your boys are wonderful young men. They are going to make an impact in their world for Jesus!

Great idea! My boys were fighting ALL day with each other. ARGH!! We do not allow fighting..which means I have to be VERY consistent. After awhile I realized that I was getting no where...so I had them put on their shoes and go out and run a mile. They had 25 minutes to run it and if they came back after the time given they would have to do it again. If they had so much energy to fight then then need to run it off. They ran..came back in about 13 to 15 minutes and I had a very relaxing..fight free evening.

I would only do this with a child that I knew was in good enough shape to do it.

Hi Mel,

That is a terrific idea! We live in an area where I can't send my kids to run a mile, but I could take them to the park or a track and make them run laps to a mile when they are a bit older.

I have had the kids run up and down the side walk during our home to expend energy. They think its the funnest thing ever.

Your home sounds like a great place.

I just posted a funny story from a couple years ago that included both of my kids. They teach me so much!
