College Days...

I went to a small, Christian liberal arts college and took it upon myself to have a Bible verse ministry. I used to print Bible verses on index cards and plaster them all over the place - mainly in the bathrooms in my own dorm. I would put them inside the bathroom stalls and in the dressing room stalls and later in various places around the dorm. Girls would frequently come and ask me to put a new verse up because they had memorized the one in their stall...

I worked at the Cougar Den (on-campus fast food) so I thought why not put Scripture verses on the bathroom walls there too. So I put them in the ladies restroom easily enough and decided to brave the men's room when it was my turn to clean it (ewww). It was cleaned during time when guys could feasibly walk in, so we always worked quickly. One day I put several verses up in the bathroom stall, by the mirror and over the urinal.

One day a male friend asked me if I hung some verses in the men's room and I told him that I did and he said, "You need to remove the one over the urinal." I couldn't imagine why... Then I went to check and nearly had heart failure when I read the verse... 1 Corinthians 15:58 - "Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain."

Some Scriptures especially need to be taken in the correct context...Needless to say, I removed that verse and replaced it with another....

Okay, BIG smile!

This was great. I love your heart to share God's word wherever you are. I also love it that people read them and wanted new ones. The ending is so funny!

God has a sense of humor.

Tiffany, Jel, Paula, You are all right - it is funny now, but I was soooo embarrassed then. My friend wouldn't tell me what the verse said either - he made me suffer until I could get back into the men's room to find out.

Glad you made this story a post, Robin! I had sent it to our son, who is also an MVNU graduate, and he got quite a kick out of it.

Keep posting those verses!!

Ruthie and Life Adapted - I'm glad you both stopped by. I was actually wondering if anyone else would see the humor that I saw in the situation (much after the fact) or if I was just warped...

Carol - I posted this story because you found humor in the situation...

Very funny!

I worked at the Cougar Den at MVNC and I had to clean it when it was my turn - so I used that time to hang Bible verses also :P

Currently I have a daughter there. she will be a senior next year. My wife and I went to that liberal one on the east coast... Pray for us because we have mush to overcome because of it...

I went out to PLNC for a conference while I was at MVNC and thought it was probably good that I didn't go to school there because a four year degree might have been advanced to a 10 year degree. I don't know how anyone got anything done with the gorgeous scenery out there. I guess you get used to things though.

My time at MVNC was absolutely incredible. God worked in my life and helped me deal with some issues and a firm foundation was built. I so appreciated the professors, faculty and staff who were always so willing to pray and be involved with the students. Dr. and Mrs. Fairbanks were terrific also - they really lived a servant life. I wouldn't trade those four years for anything! I hope your daughter is enjoying her time and learning a lot. What is she majoring in? I majored in psychology and minored in Christian Education.

Our daughter is going to be a senior next year. She is majoring in Psych with a minor in sociology. She plans on being a clinical psychologist. We are very proud of her. (as well as we are proud of our son who is still down here in Texas!)

She went one semester at SNU, but really felt that God's plan for her life involved rural Ohio! And we are all on the same page that that is where she needs to be right now, even though it is very hard on her mother and I to be so very far away.

Thanks for asking and thanks for your blog.

I can only imagine having my children far away since I'm in the early stages of parenting, but everyone tells me it will go by quickly. My daughter is 8 and my son is 5 - they mean more to me than I could have ever imagined possible.

MVNU's campus is a beautiful and peaceful place. It has grown a lot since my days there, but my memories will always be fond. I liked walking to Lakeholm CON too.

Your daughter and I probably have some psych professors in common. They are a terrific bunch!

Actually, her advisor and my wife grew up together in the same church in Maryland. We went to ENC together and have had a great time becoming reaquainted after all these years.
